Knee Replacement Surgery in Iran
Knee Replacement Surgery in Iran

Knee arthroplasty, also known as total knee replacement surgery, is a surgical procedure in which the damaged or diseased parts of the knee joint are replaced with artificial components, known as prostheses. This procedure is typically performed to alleviate pain and improve function in patients with advanced arthritis or other conditions that have caused significant damage to the knee joint. The goal of knee arthroplasty is to restore the knee’s natural function and improve the patient’s quality of life by reducing pain and increasing mobility.

Knee Replacement Surgery in Iran

As the largest joint in the human body, the knee plays a crucial role in facilitating movement and agility. However, due to the significant load it carries, the knee joint can become susceptible to damage over time or as a result of external factors.

In instances where conservative medical treatment proves insufficient, surgical intervention may become necessary. For individuals facing this situation, a knee replacement surgery may be the solution to address the damaged knee joint and restore functionality.

Categories of Knee Replacement Procedures

Surgeons generally recommend one of two primary types of knee replacement surgeries: total or partial.

  1. Total Knee Replacement: The most common form of knee replacement, this procedure involves the surgeon replacing all three compartments of the knee joint—the medial (inside), lateral (outside), and patellofemoral (under the kneecap) sections.
  2. Partial Knee Replacement: This surgery is typically suggested when only one or two parts of the knee joint are damaged. A partial knee replacement procedure is more frequently recommended for younger patients who have suffered an injury or trauma.
